Southern Tier Sports &
Recreation Development Center (dba The Community Sportsplex) was established to
promote the moral, mental, and physical development of both the youth and adults
of the Greater Binghamton, NY community through participation in sports and
other recreational activities. The Community Sportsplex is organized as a
501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation in New York State.
Through a generous
donation of the Maines family, the Sportsplex recently acquired 33+ acres
of land at the site of the former Conklin Sports Park on Conklin Road in
Conklin, NY. We
are currently in the process of restoring the driving range and building a
new 2,500 sq. ft. Community Center and Education Facility to support
a new chapter of The First TeeŽ, a national youth life skills and golf
education program. Eventually, our plans call for a
large indoor field sports structure at the site and multiple outdoor
fields. A rendering of the driving range and new Education Center are
shown below. The Education Center is to the right and the corner
of the future indoor field sports structure can be seen on the left. The new
Town of Conklin Senior Center can also be seen at the top right-center in the rendering.
